It was only a decade ago that Coca-Cola was sued for over 20 million dollars in a distracted driving lawsuit. A driver was found at fault, and it was stated that Coca-Cola was aware of the dangers but did tell the driver, and that is what led to the accident. Lawyers argued that the policies from Coca-Cola were vague and ambiguous. A jury awarded the victim in the case $14 million in actual damages and another $10 million in punitive damages.

 

 

If you own a business and have employee delivery drivers, you need to make sure that you have a very clear policy in place. Without one, you are subject to the same fate as Coca-Cola in the above mentioned case. Not only should you have this policy in place, but your employees need to be aware of it, and you should do training on it. You should make sure they are educated on this not only in company vehicles, but in their personal vehicles as well.
